History and Background
Conway Data, Inc. (CDI) has a long and successful history of association management. It has been providing association management services since 1949 when its Chairman,
McKinley Conway, served as Executive Director of the Southern Association of Science & Industry.
In 1961 Mr. Conway founded the International Development Research Council (IDRC). Since its founding IDRC grew into a global organization of 47 chapters spanning five continents and more than 3,600 members. All of the chapters were supported out of the international headquarters in Norcross, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, with three regional offices in Brussels, Hong Kong and Sydney. Today, CDI manages the Industrial Asset Management Council (IAMC), the world's leading association of industrial asset management and corporate real estate executives, their suppliers and service providers, and economic developers.
CDI has focused primarily on two business lines. First is the association management for the International Development Research Council (IDRC), which establishes a marketplace for corporate real estate professionals, economic developers and service providers centered around research, education, and networking and for the World Development Federation (WDF). Second, is the publication of a trade magazine now known as Site Selection, which is supported by advertising dollars from economic development agencies and targeted to corporate real estate executives.
Competitive Position
As an association management company, Conway Data offers a substantial value that makes the company a competitive force. Three AMC industry key indicators that reflect the overall ability of a management company to perform successfully on behalf of its association clients are number of employees, years in industry and revenue generated per staff members for an association. CDI's 50 plus years in the association management industry places it in the 95th percentile of all AMCs for years of service in the industry.
In addition, CDI has consistently performed above average among associations of similar size in the area of operating efficiencies typically measured by the ratio of gross revenue per full-time equivalent staff member and has maintained strong operating reserves for its associations. The American Society of Association Executives, ("ASAE"), has described CDI's global model on behalf of IDRC as among the association industry's most comprehensive and advanced. ASAE awarded IDRC the Gold Circle Trophy as best-in-category status for its international operations.
Further, CDI has helped in association mergers and strategic planning and has the expertise to assist in strategic planning and implementation. CDI can provide state-of-the-art web-enabled chapter support to minimize the time required for the chapter volunteer leaders to manage the chapter meetings and control finances.
