Since MHBG is located in a region vulnerable to major hurricanes and subject to frequent lightning strikes, we have a special opportunity to promote landscaping to reduce storm damage. Our current focus is on educating the public about the extreme differences in the storm resistance of similar-looking commonly used shade tree species. In the future, we would like to develop other projects in this area, such as experimental research on ways to use vines to anchor structures.
