Building on Navarre's Health Care Infrastructure
Medical activities in Navarre are by far the most important and technically advanced in Spain. Patients -- including the Royal Family and entertainment notables -- come here for check-ups and special treatments. The 1,500-employee hospital sees 100,000 patients a year.
Staffed by full-time physicians with no outside practices, the hospital has talent in all the medical specialties. It is one of the most prestigious hospitals in Europe for transplants, including heart, liver, kidney and cornea. The latest equipment supports the human touch, including PET tomographic molecular imaging, one of only two such machines in Spain.
The Clinical Hospital is well-known to pharmaceutical companies around the world and is experienced in research and clinical trials for drug companies. The companies learned there are advantages in a close relationship with the Clinical Hospital: when a company is accepted to work with the Navarre institution this counts as an introduction to doing business with other hospitals in Spain.
The hospital is also well-known and respected among major institutions worldwide. For example, it collaborates with the Mayo Clinic in orthopedics and with the Cleveland Clinics for general surgery, orthopedics, cardiology and oncology. There are untapped opportunities for foreign investors to take advantage of Navarre's huge infrastructure in health care. |

The centerpiece of the health care sector is the University of Navarre and its Clinical Hospital, a part of the university's School of Medicine. This is a teaching hospital and research center, as well as provider of medical care. Established 36 years ago, it is the only private university hospital in Spain.
