    Additional Notes for 1996 Conference

  56. Auto Manufacturing Plant -- Toyota has selected Evansville, Indiana for a $1 billion plant, its third in the U.S.
  57. Hong Kong Semiconductor Plant -- United Microelectronics of Taiwan is buildidng a $1 billion wafer plant. The project team includes six other companies, including Trident Microsystems, of the U.S.
  58. Utah Chip Fabrication Plant -- Micron Technology of Boise, Idaho is building a $2.5 billion chip at Lehi, Utah.
  59. Texas chip plant -- Motorola is building a $1 billion chip fabrication plant in Austin.
  60. Dallas chip pant -- Texas Instruments is building a $1 billion chip fabrication plant in Dallas.
  61. Germany chip plant -- Advanced Micro Devices is reported to be planning a $1.5 billion chip fabrication plant in Dresden.
  62. Texas Wafer Chip Plant -- Samsung Electronics is said to be looking for a site in Texas for a $1.3 billion wafer making plant.
  63. Indonesia Petrochemical Plant -- Chandra Asri, of Jakarta, has completed a $1.9 billion petrochemical plant for production of ethylene, propylene, and other materials.
  64. Malaysia -- The government has announced plans to build a new city, Putrajaya, just South of Kuala Lumpur, to be the new administrative capital of the nation. The $8 billion project is set for completion in 2005.
  65. Saudi Arabia -- A $1.6 billion project to expand water systems for the two industrial towns of Jubail and Yanbu has been reported. Engineering will beprovided by Parsons and Bechtel.
  66. India -- New auto manufacturing facilities in the $1 billion range have recently been announced by Ford, Daewoo, and Hyundai.
  67. Global -- The construction of new computer chip and wafer plants may constitute the greatest building boom ever experienced by any industry. Expert observers in the field predict well ovedr 100 new installations in the next 5 years, with the unit cost ranging from $1.2 to 3.0 billion.
